JOB TITLE: RELIEF WORKERS PANEL - Support Worker (Annual Fixed Term
Contract)

REPORTS TO: Manager - Mayo Women?s Support & Advocacy Service (MWSS)

1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Mayo Women?s Support and Advocacy Service works throughout Co. Mayo
providing support to women and children who access the service and
have experienced domestic violence and coercive control. It is a
requirement that workers develop the skills and knowledge necessary to
deliver a wide range of supports, in outreach, emergency
accommodation, and the wider community.

2. ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB

Safe Ireland is the national social change agency working to eradicate
domestic violence in Ireland. MWSS is a frontline service of Safe
Ireland. It is the lead agency in Co Mayo addressing the issue of
domestic violence and coercive control. The main centre of
administration and refuge is in Castlebar. There are eleven outreach
locations throughout the County.

3. GUIDANCE AND AUTHORITY

Reports to the Manager of MWSS who in turn reports to the CEO of Safe
Ireland.

4. PRINCIPAL DUTIES

DUTIES

* To observe and enforce a policy of strict confidentiality (with the
exception of the limitations) in relation to all aspects of the
service.

* To promote at all times the working principles of Mayo Women?s
Support & Advocacy Service.
HOW ACHIEVED Inform all service users of the limitations pertaining to
the statement.

* To work as part of a team, providing a welcoming safe environment
for women and their children who are using the service.
HOW ACHIEVED Familiarise themselves with the ethos and working
principles of the service and adhere to same.
?
* To work directly with women (and their children) and assess their
needs.
HOW ACHIEVED? This will start during the induction period and
thereafter continue with co-workers on a daily basis and participation
in team meetings and supervision.

* To provide accompaniment and advocacy to a range of services
including court, legal aid, housing, Garda? social protection, Child
Welfare and Protection and other relevant agencies.
HOW ACHIEVED Complete all documentation when women first present to
service and draw up agreed consultative written plan. Follow and amend
Needs Analysis, as necessary.

* To admit women and children to the emergency accommodation in
accordance with guidelines and contracts laid down and acquaint them
with rules, practices, and services available.
HOW ACHIEVED Follow all policy and procedure regarding admission and
discharge.

* To maintain a high standard of emotional and practical care and
support for women and their children, who are in refuge, includes the
preparation and maintenance of emergency accommodation.
HOW ACHIEVED Regular support sessions with women. Encourage mothers to
engage with childcare worker and avail of supports for children.

* To encourage women leaving the emergency accommodation to maintain
contact with the service via the outreach.
HOW ACHIEVED Identify practical tasks to be completed, regarding the
maintenance and upkeep of the accommodation. Provide information
regarding outreach locations and give MWSS information leaflets and
contact details.

* Adhere to Policies, Procedures, and legislation.
HOW ACHIEVED To ensure all procedures in relation to admission and
discharge and use of emergency accommodation are strictly adhered to.
To have a clear understanding of child protection procedures as laid
down by legislation and governed by Safe Ireland?s Child
Safeguarding Statement & Policy. To operate within all policies and
procedures of MWSS/Safe Ireland.

* Health and Safety
HOW ACHIEVED To familiarise themselves with and operate within the
Health and Safety Policy of the service.
Workers are responsible for maintaining their own workspace and
participating in the daily upkeep of the centre. To maintain the
security and well-being of survivors of domestic violence and their
children within the premises, and to communicate immediately with the
line manager any breaches of safety and security, house rules or
occupancy agreements especially where there is concern about safety.
To control access to the refuge when on duty and remind residents to
keep building secure when staff are not present.

* Communication and Liaison
HOW ACHIEVED To be responsible for the delivery of information and
support at all outreach locations. To liaise with other appropriate
agencies in order to provide a comprehensive range of supports to
women and children that reflects their individual needs. To ensure
good public relations are maintained between the service and the
relevant statutory, voluntary and community agencies.

* Delivery of the education and raising awareness programme,
fundraising activities, and Flag Day
HOW ACHIEVED Liaise with appropriate agencies and organisations, agree
content of programme in consultation with management and in line with
MWSS/Safe Ireland policies. Prepare and deliver programmes. Ensure all
required tasks are completed, including the granting of permit.

* Assist in publicising the work of MWSS and the core aspects of
service provision
HOW ACHIEVED Ensure that all materials regarding MWSS are available at
outreach locations and other relevant venues.

* Write accurate reports and maintain and update records, files,
database, and statistics as required
HOW ACHIEVED In line with Data Protection, Child Protection
legislation, and requirements of funding bodies
?
* Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of areas of work as
appropriate.
HOW ACHIEVED Ensure data and statistics are kept in line with the
requirements of funders and Safe Ireland.

* General
HOW ACHIEVED Attend and participate in supervision and appraisal of
your job performance.
Attend team meetings, team development as required. Perform other
duties appropriate to the post which may be assigned by the Manager.

* Continually reassess the operational risks inherent in the
provision of services, taking account of changing legal and regulatory
requirements, and best practice.
HOW ACHIEVED By addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with
line management.

5. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Experience of working in a social care setting would be an advantage,
but not essential. A qualification in social care, childcare or
related field, and a knowledge and understanding of domestic violence
and coercive control, is desirable.

6. OTHER INFORMATION

The above principal duties are a guide to the general range of duties
and are neither definitive nor restrictive and will be subject to
periodic review. This post requires the job holder to undertake
evening and weekend work. Hours will be worked over mainly
